Random Ramblings

Our first year in Chicago, I was working full-time and then babysitting on the side which took up 5 out of 7 seven nights. It was very tiring but Mike was working so much as well that it really didn't matter. Our second year there, I found a place to teach that was a lot closer and paid more and therefore didn't have to work as much. Mike still refereed, worked, had school, and an internship...not to mention his sports addictions which take up lots of his time as well. He likes to be busy. Then it was all over. We moved in with my parents for a few months while Mike looked for a job. We all know looking for a job IS  a full-time job, but we still got to just play. It was a time in our lives that we will never have again-no kids, no commitments and a paycheck coming in every 2 weeks from teaching. It was THE life. Then reality sets in. The summer is over and the paychecks stopped. We made the decision to move to Palmdale. We like it here. The strangest difference has been the abrupt change in schedule. All of the sudden, I send my husband off to work in the morning with his lunch and I am supposed to be a stay at home mom....without a kid. Being a stay-at-home mom was something that Mike and I have decided to try and do for as long as our finances would permit and although I have 2 months before the kid comes, there really aren't a lot of jobs out here for people in this situation. We only have one car still so that cuts down on jobs as well. A lot of my identity of who I am/was is so tied with the money that I earned and the career that I had. Now that I can no longer label myself as a teacher and fill my day with researching the next science unit or creating posters for tomorrow's grammar lesson, I am left to fill my day with other things. Mike worries about me during the day, but in all reality, I am pretty good at filling my schedule with mundane tasks and trying to reinvent myself I guess you could say.

Here is a perfect example of my things to do....I have decided to grow a garden on this very, very small plot of dirt on the side of our yard. While getting my tools out with the door open today, a cat decided to wander into our house. Scared me to death! Luckily, he didn't make it too far, turned around and ran away. Anyway....I went to a free class that Home Depot offers (loved it and plan on going to a do-it-herself night in the next few weeks-I don't why I've never gone to these before!) about gardening and decided to give it a go. I have never really owned a section of dirt before, so this is very exciting. I planted some basil and some broccoli. If all goes well, I am investing in some more vegetables and some mums later but I had to test out my green thumb first.
Well is this the most fascinating post you have ever read or what?
